Yep, today is one year to the day I placed a picture of one red paperclip on this site. Today is also the day Dom and I will be in Kipling Saskatchewan to shake hands with mayor Pat Jackson and officially trade one movie role for one house, located at 503 Main Street. This is going to be so much fun. Should be on the news and stuff today - stay tuned for pictures of the house tomorrow!
PS - feel free to send in any video of the newscasts so we can share them with everyone here on the site!
UPDATE - I strongly encourgage this. (best part starts about two minutes in.)
I have read your history in the most important jornal in Spain (El País). You can see it in: www.elpais.es
I'm writing from Spain, where I saw you last night on the news. And today on the newspaper!!! Wow! Amazing idea. Congratulations again!
Got it in the news in Iceland. Congratulations...
I thought you wanted to buy The Castle in Bonnie Doon?? Your story was just featured on 'Beyond Tomorrow' in Australia!
Congratulations Kyle! Your story made it onto Australian News Networks last night - (Tuesday the 11th of July here) - and also featured on a new technology info show "Beyond Tomorrow" at 7:30pm this evening - (the 13th). Sadly, I had no way to record this for you and email it. This evening's feature on the tech show was a little outdated as it only went as far as your trade between a recording contract and a van. The news reports yesterday mentioned your acquisition of the house.
So, again (in my long winded way) CONGATS!
congratulations, what seemed like an impossible feat turned into something amazing.
all the best from a blogger Down Under,
This is soooo cool! Congratulations!
So, does the quest end here, or are you going to barter the house for yet something else? Maybe move on to owning an entire apartment block? :-)
Jeroen van Baardwijk
A rather lame link for you. The only photos included in the short synopsis were of the presenter! At any rate, you've made it to Australia... in a fashion :)
Beyond Tomorrow: Paperclip Man (you've now lost your name and acquired a title! - practically royalty!)
Congratulations on trading your red paperclip for a house!
I guess that makes the the most valuable paperclip on earth.
I wonder where it is right now?
wow!!!I saw your story in Beyond Tomorrow!
Hope you get want you want .
One Red PaperClip ROCKS!!!!!
For you archives ... here in the Netherlands (Holland) have been several news items (newspapers and TV) about your quest. Yesterday it was in the news that you got the house!
I have been on your blog right from the start (oh no ... that's not true ... from the fishpen onwards) and in my opinion the coolest thing you achieved is that you are now officially called Web Trader (watch the CAPS). Impressive.
Good Luck Today, Kyle!
Tomorrow, a man will close on a house. He didn't pay for it - he traded things for it, starting with one red paper clip.
Friday, we will woot a Pelham Manor house, for real.
:) you're a genius
i've been seeing you on the news and everything..
hi...your story seems real interesting...I am excited to know how it progresses :)
The Beyond Tomorrow show screened tonight in Australia. Looks like you did much better than the Kerrigan's shack in Bonnydoon. Enjoy your house and your new community!
What I really want to know is whether you will trade the house and what you will trade it for!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am very VERY happy you were succesful, but sad the trip is over. It's been fun to "check in on you" to see what new item was traded!!
Ive been following your progress on this site since you got the trip to yahk, but was surprised to see a tv article on the BBC over here in the UK about the completion of your trade by finally getting a house! Congratulations on doing that!
I'm still debating the offer I received from a co-worker when we were having a discussion about body lice. He said:
"I'll trade you one blind crab for two without teeth".
I hope that you enjoy living in Kipling!! I grew up there, and my parents still live there! Everyone in Kipling is so excited about your project, and I know that you will be welcome with open arms!!!
I am from Australia and your story was on the Sydney Morning Herald today.
I actually first learnt about your story on KOREAN TV on a business trip there! It was a show called "Truth or Lie", one of the most popular shows on Sunday morning. 3 stories got to played on the show and then the celebrities who got on the show would vote for what they thought was true. Well, no one voted for you and how wrong they were!
Congratulations. You are really cool.
Kyle! Wow, congradulations from sunny Bermuda. Been following you since April, and have posted your success on http://www.imho.bm.
Good luck with the new house.
Congratulations! Saw it in the newspaper here in Louisville, KY.
This blog was really a splendid idea. I saw you on the news here in Belgium. It was on the VTM news, but I don't have any images. This is their website: www.vtm.be. It is in Dutch.
Well, on eBay there are red paperclips for sale for $1. You can even search for Kyle MacDonald and get hits.
Enjoy the house.
I saw you on Yahoo's home page yesterday. Wow what a cool concept. I'm an artist and I love to hear creative ways to live. This takes the cake though. Beavo!
I just read your story yesterday for the first time and all I can say is WOW....What an AMAZING journey you have embarked on! I have always said that "Life is all about connections" and boy are you well connected now! :-)
What initially made me read your story is (of all things) your name! You see I am the mother of a Kyle MacDonald here in CT! My son Kyle turned 22 last month.
I am SO glad that he shares your name, or I would never have heard about your amazing experiences!
If you are ever in Connecticut, please look us up! I would love to get a picture of the 2 Kyle MacDonald's together! Who knows, maybe you could trade that up for something too!
Keep it up...you will have memories for the rest of your life of all the wonderful adventures you have been on!
I heard you were going to be on GMA as I was headed out the door for work (actually all I heard was "How did a red paper clip turn into a house?"). Anyway,I had to leave and promptly forgot about it until I saw the article on Yahoo's home page. This was such a cool story and congrats to you!
hi im trying for a petrol driven r/c car lol i hope i get what i want
Visit My Website
P.S. i cant belive it only took u a year to get a house out of sumthing that would have cost 5c
What an awesome idea! Congratulations!
I've seen your story on the news different times and was thrilled to see an update the other day that you did indeed, get your house.
Way to go!! :)
You are such an inspiration and man, I'd love to try this [maybe not on such a big of scale as you did] but ... how fun!!
Wonderful idea and I'm so happy for you that you reached your goal. :)
Hey congratulations and welcome to Saskatchewan!! Can't wait for your housewarming party :D
sheer brilliance kyle! i'm coming in from calgary for the housewarming party! hopefully i can shake your hand.
Congratulations Kyle and Dom with your new found home:-) What a special day!
Today my son, always full of ideas, turns 15 and I shared your story with him as an birthday inspiration to him.
So cool too that our home, is the same color, white with red trim!
The trading concept will go a long way to bring people together, especially if you meet the people you trade with as you have done.
We applaud you!
Best wishes from Courtenay, BC, Canada
Wow - you really made it - a modern fairytale is born :))
Did you mark that red clip?
I've been following your progress for about 6 months now since I heard a radio clip on my local radio station in Windsor, Ontario. I was glad to hear that a fellow Canadian had this incredible idea.
I want to send you all my best wishes and congratulations on realizing your dream. You've given many people inspiration, me included.
hey congratulations !!! I saw your story on yahoo. Begin with just one red paperclip to have a flat is really a good idea ! Good luck if you want to continue !!!
Congrats Kyle! We are totally coming to your house warming party.
Mike and Zach
Congrats to you and to the town of Kipling. Kipling needs to trade the movie contract for a contract to update their website since it's going to be getting so many hits. ;-)
I just happened upon your story via Yahoo mainpage...I'm rather saddened I missed the entire thing.
Congratulations on the house, man...what do you have planned next? I bet with your talent you could own your own town within a year :P
What if I start with several paper clips, will i be able to own a villa?
Today its the day you move into your own house....wow unbelievable.
Im writing from germany and im realy impressed! I got a house last week too but i had to pay 249.000 € (Euro) lol...
wished i had your idea ;)
Wish ya all the best and take care.
So... You trade a paperclip, then you trade what you got for something else, and so on and so forth?
Congratulations on you newly aquired house.
i knew about your site some months ago, but my dad brough the newspaper and you were in it, i didn't know you had gotten so far.
Rodrigo form Mexico
I saw your story on ebaumsworld.com. Congratulations!
I told my boyfriend and he didn't believe me!! He noticed I was wearing a red paperclip on my shirt. When I told him he said I was crazy. But don't mind him: I think you're AWESOME!!!! Congrats!
Long live the PR machine.
You were just featured on ESPN's SportsCenter. Nice job!
This is perhaps the most amazing thing that I have ever read...I love it. Congrats on the new home and the new community of 1100. Smart group of folks up there in Canada!!!
I just read about your paperclip in my "little" hometown paper last night here in Michigan, US (Saginaw to be exact)...wish we would have thought to buy you a home sooner...you'd be a great neighbor! Enjoy, keep writing, I'll keep reading.
Hi I am 10 years old my name is Grady what I think you are doing is great I saw it on tv last night I am going to start a website soon but Im not sure what to do it on well bye.
After seeing the Beyond Tomorrow segment last night (looong lead time, eh?), I thought I'd check out how you were doing on the house in Bonnie Doon.
Imagine my surprise that you completed the quest today. Exactly a year, on the very night the segment went to air. Freaky.
Anyway, we have a radio station here in Melbourne, Gold 104. The morning drive show is presented by Grubby and Dee-Dee. And she does a gossip segment. And this story is sooo cool I just had to tell their producer about it.
Expect a phone call from Australia, mate! And again, well done!
I have read your history in the most important newspaper in Brazil, the name is "Folha de São Paulo", I live in Vitoria city, Brazil, and I would like to say....congratulation good ideia!!!!

san francisco, California
I am utterly amazed that you were able to trade the red paperclip in the first place and still you managed to get a house!!
Leonardo Da Vinci
Congratulations on making your goal. I have a similar website where I am trying to get a much smaller gimme at the end, but have the same hopes you did. I am trying to get either a Harley Davidson or a VW 21 Window Bus. Maybe you could send all of your traffic towards me now since you reached your goal! http://daddiogold.com
Congratulations on your new house!!
I hope you will enjoy it.
Great story - it's been great fun following your progress. Thank you!
Your story has been in the norwegian media for some time as well. As an example: http://n24.no/oppogfrem/article1384236.ece (page in norwegian)
Congratulations Kyle, I live in Kipling, SK and I'm really excited to meet you and party it up on labour day weekend! You definatly have inspired the town! ~K

Congrats!! I heard about your sucess this morning on 102.1 The Edge in Toronto.
Awesome! I'm excited you finally got your house... but will you trade it for something bigger and better?
Imagine if you had begun with a stapler.
Congratulations from Spain. I don't have a island with a house, sorry. ;-)
Could you teach me how to do it.
I think i have what it takes to achieve it. Yes, a red paper clip--I have it.
Well done, pal.

Congrats Kyle, it was an amazing journey. I hope you guys will be happy in Kipling. I'm wondering... do you still have the phone number of the person who made the first trade with you? That red paper clip is now so famous, it must be worth a fortune. I'm sure somebody would pay good money to be able to say: Hey... I now have the famous red paper clip or even, maybe that girl who has it could start her own journey with the original paperclip. She would probably get more than a pen for it. Anyway... it's just an idea.
Quebec city, Canada
The radio station that picked up on it here in Germany has decided to copy the idea, and trade up all summer long. (At least the final object will go to charity).
Great to see you on the front page of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram!
you've got impressive PR skills!
SO, now what?! Are you going to live in the house? Sell the house? -OR- Trade the house? Can you live in Canada and not be a citizen?
Sadly, I just saw this story on AOL in the States, not Spain, Iceland or Australia. I couldn't stop reading, and absolutely love how the internet pulls us all together!
Where can I send a welcome mat?
Read your story on line and think it's the coolest thing on the news. Will keep an eye out for your next trading session. Who knows, a town could be in the mix:)
Congratulations from Louisiana.

Hi Kyle, I'm from Kenosee-just down the road from your new home about 1/2 hour. I've been following your progress for several months now and I am so excited that you finally got a house and that its in an area of Canada that I love! How exciting for you and Dom. I know that you will both be happy in your new home because the people in the area are so friendly and big hearted. I look forward to meeting you and Dom sometime and wish you both all the best, whether you stay for a year or a lifetime.

Congratulations! I'm impressed!
Congrats on reaching your goal. I saw you in the news today and I find it interesting that I started a similar blog on the 11th of this year. Almost 1 year to the day that you started yours and now you've reached your goal. Is it a passing of the torch? I don't know...We'll have to see. I just hope people don't think I was trying to copy you because my blog came through different means and thought.
Anyway congrats again and good luck in your Home Sweet Home!
What is happening with the one movie role? Is there any way I could audition for it?
Congratulations from Australia~ I read about you in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Enjoy your new house~

Does the trade end? if not yet, whatz ur next purpose??

YAY HOUSE! congradulamations! that totally rocks.
You're about the most popular man on earth now. 'cos of this, well except for Zinedine Zidane and his new Head Butt way of settling disputes.
Way to go man. You deserve it. Now I'd better go look for my own paperclip, I think I'll make it a blue one this time.
I'm writing from Japan.
I'm Japanese high school student.
I can't write English well.
This English may be strange.
I watched Japanese TV Progrum(Fuji Television) before. This Progrum broadcasted a feature program on you.
Your idea was very surprising and very interesting.
I have been sure that you will succeed in the attempt.
Well done! and Congratulations!
Enjoy your life!
Congrates on making it. I'm not surprised it could be done ... but I am surprised it only took one year and only fourteen trades.
I'm also amazed at some of the things people traded in order to get you to where you are today!
Best of luck with whatever your next trades are going to be! :-)
Congrats to you and your girlfriend. You've showed the world that no dream is impossible. And you've given new meaning to the word "perseverence." Where do we send the house warming gift?
My best to you both and can't wait to see what you do for furniture!
