An Open Challenge to all Broadcasters of The World

To email this letter to a broadcaster, click HERE To see Corey Hart drive a Fiero, click HERE ****************************** Okay, here's the letter: ****************************** An Open Challenge to all Broadcasters of The World November 29, 2005 My name is Kyle MacDonald. On July 12th, 2005 I put a picture of one red paperclip on my website, http://www.oneredpaperclip.com/, with the following: This one red paperclip is currently sitting on my desk next to my computer. I want to trade this one red paperclip with you for something bigger or better, maybe a pen, a spoon, or perhaps a boot. If you promise to make the trade I will come and visit you, wherever you are, to trade. I'm going to make a continuous chain of 'up trades' until I get a house. After several trades, I now have a snowmobile. On November 28, 2005, The Jeff O’Neil Show on 99.3 CFOX FM in Vancouver B.C. Canada started their own one red paperclip style trading game. The Jeff O’Neil Show will make daily on-air trades for bigger or better things until the end of CFOX’s Santa Fox Food Drive. Since 'The Fox Rocks!', they started with 'one fox rock'. Whatever CFOX has at the end of their campaign will be auctioned off with all proceeds to charity. The Jeff O’Neil Show franchised the one red paperclip idea for charity. The Jeff O’Neil Show is awesome. link: http://www.cfox.com/shows/morning_show/one_fox_rock.cfm You can listen to our conversation here: here Broadcasters of the world, here is my challenge to you: I challenge you to start your own one red paperclip style trading game and auction off your item for charity at the end. I challenge you to franchise one red paperclip. I challenge you to trade for bigger or better things. I challenge you to raise money for a good cause of your choice. I challenge you to have fun. I challenge you to franchise fun. Since you have a massive audience, your potential for fun, or funtential, is much larger than me with my small website. I challenge you to realize your full funtential. Sincerely, Kyle MacDonald Montreal, Quebec, Canada http://www.oneredpaperclip.com/ 514-448-2678 PS You are probably wondering what I will do with my house when/if I trade up to it. I guarantee that I will do something very, very cool with it. Yes, I will do something EXTREMELY COOL with my potential house – after we have a massive party, of course. Stay tuned to find out what will happen. I guarantee it will be fun. *********************************************************** To email this letter to a broadcaster, click HERE

The FOX Rocks

You probably don't care about my bio, but for the sake of clarity here's the short version: I grew up in Vancouver. I moved to Montreal last year. Yes, for a girl. Yes, we're still together. Anyhow, my radio station of choice in Vancouver is 99.3 the FOX. The Fox gives Vancouver its daily dose of loud, in-your-face rock. The kind of thing you NEED on a dark, rainy November night spent delivering pizzas in your Toyota Tercel at high speed. The Fox is rad. The Fox Rocks. So, I was pretty stoked to talk on-air with Jeff O'Neil of the Fox. In addition to being only one 'L' away from having the same name as an NHL Hockey player, Jeff is a Vancouver morning DJ who digs one red paperclip so much that he just started his own on-air trading game. He started with one small rock. A Fox Rock. The Fox Rocks. I love a radio station that’ll take a pun to the physical level. You can listen to our converstion here. Some neato small-world stuff going on here. My cousin Carmen works in the same building as CFOX in Vancouver. Jeff O'Neil lives in the suburb I grew up in, Port Moody, and actually lives in the former house of a guy my brother went to school with, Mike Quinn. That's fun and all, but the shirt I wear for each trade, my lucky trading shirt, was given to me on the day I posted the paperclip on the website, July 12th, by a fellow named Ricky Hebert. Ricky is Carmen's husband. He is the former star quarterback of the Arkansas Twisters, an arena football team. Ricky is a cool guy. He's originally from Haverhill Massachusetts. The shirt is not some emo-rock ironic-that-its-somebody-else's shirt kinda thing. It's Ricky's shirt. He didn't want it any more. He gave it to me as a joke. So far, the joke's going pretty well. Ricky thinks it's funny. I do to. Okay, so Jeff O’Neil started with one fox rock today and they’re going to trade their way up for bigger or better things until they get something massive to auction off for the annual CFOX Santa Fox Food Drive. The Santa Fox Food Drive is an annual xmastime campaign to raise money for Vancouver-area Food Banks. The Santa Fox Food Drive is a good thing. I've got good memories of the Santa Fox Food drive. I remember my brother Scott, his buddy Skippy, and I set a cassette tape on 'record' then drove down to CFOX's Satellite broadcast van in Coquitlam wearing our Witness Relocation Program T-Shirts. We got a DJ by the name of Bill Courage to say "Witness Relocation Program! - right on boys!" on the air. We donated some cash to the cause, then went home and listened to the tape. We thought that was so awesome. We still do. backfromplanting98 I'm extremely happy that CFOX has added the one red paperclip concept to the Santa Fox Food Drive. The Santa Fox Food drive is a force to be reckoned with on it's own, but this takes things to the next level. The Fox Rocks on so many levels. This might even edge out the Witness Relocation Program t-shirt experience as my favorite CFOX experience. CFOX has really upped the ante with this one. Upping the ante is always a good idea. One red paperclip has now franchised. Franchising is fun. If you want to start your very own one red paperclip style trading game, give’er – especially if it’s going to a good cause! Don't worry about stealing one red paperclip's thunder, I've got surplus thunder. Not Zeus-like surplus thunder - more like this kind of thunder 'round these parts. Speaking of good causes, a few people have asked me what I’m going to do with the house if/when I get it. Will it be given away? Will I sell it and keep the money? Will I live in the house? Some valid questions here. This is a potential house we’re talking about. I have a great idea for what I’ll do with the house, when it happens. But you’ll have to wait for it to happen to find out. Until then, keep making offers for one famous skidoo and get in on whatever Jeff O’Neil and the crew decide to call the CFOX Santa Fox Food Drive Bigger and Better Barter Bonanza – and it won’t be that.

one famous skidoo

skidoo2 When I made the trade for 'one instant party', I also set a deadline for all upcoming trade offers: Dec 1. I would decide which offer I'd take on Decmeber first. No sooner, no later. Unless, of course, somebody made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Well, guess what happened. I got an email from a fellow named Michel Barrette who wanted to trade me his snowmobile for one instant party. I thought, sweet, this is perfect. A snowmobile is EXACTLY the kind of thing I need to trade for. Especially if I'm going to do a trade in Quebec. Quebec and snowmobiles are like, well, Quebec and snowmobiles. One simply cannot exist without the other. I showed the email to Dom and her jaw almost hit the floor. "Michel Barrette?!" she said. "You got an offer from Michel Barrette?!" I, like you, had no idea what she was so excited about. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Michel Barrette has his own radio and TV shows here in Quebec. He's very famous." This was definitely the kind of offer I couldn't refuse. I googled him and found out he was now the host of a talk radio show in Montreal. Turned out he was on-air right then. Turned out I called him up right away and accepted the trade. Turned out when he came back on the air after the commercial break he talked about the project and announced to all of Montreal that he'd just made a trade with the paperclip guy. My inbox to public radio announcement in less than ten minutes. Like I said, it was an offer I couldn't refuse. *** So I posted the big trade news on this site and a few days later I got a call from a local TV station that wanted to cover the trade for their evening newscast. Then CBC, the national broadcaster for Canada called. Then Global TV called, another national broadcaster. Just as I negotiated time slots for film crews for two of Canada's biggest newscasts to visit our apartment, the phone rang again. It was CNN. They wanted in too. Now up to this point, the only video I'd had of any of the trades was the shaky low-res one-take clip of Marcin and I swapping the generator for the instant party. Things were different this time. CNN has really good cameras. Hi-res cameras that pick up a lot of detail. I would even have to brush my hair. *** On the day of the trade I had two camera crews from national newscasts in our apartment at the same time and I had to kick them out because we were running late for the interview with CNN. I did the live hit for CNN then Dom and I drove down to the CKOI radio station building where Michel worked. There were a few camera crews hanging out front. We hopped out of the car and said hi to everybody. Dom and I pulled the complete “instant party” kit out of the car and put it on the curb. Just as we finished, a sunglasses-clad guy walked around the corner and nonchalantly came in out direction. I stepped to one side of the sidewalk to let him pass by, but he hesitated, and a large grin broke across his face. “The paperclip guy!”, he said, beaming. I scrunched up my face and thought: Did this guy just watch CNN or something? He took off his sunglasses. It was Michel Barrette. We shook hands and smiled at each other. It's a funny feeling when somebody recognizes you from a picture on your website that you set up in your bedroom while eating toast in your underwear. Definitely the far end of the spectrum from CNN, but just as possible. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small paper bag. He extended his hand toward me, looked right into my eyes and said, “Do you want a cookie?” I ate the cookie and then we laughed. It was delicious. Cookies are like that. Michel opened up the back of the giant semi truck he'd organized to transport the snowmobile down from Northern Quebec – snowmobile heartland, if you will. We climbed inside and he grabbed the starter cord. It fired on the first pull. Awesome. Michel revved the engine and looked at me with a big grin on his face. The TV cameras rolled. He revved it up real good, checked a few gauges, then hopped off and gestured for me to hop on. I got on and grabbed the handlebars. Just as I was about to rev it up and generally make a lot of noise and exhaust fumes for the TV cameras, Michel grabbed my hand and looked me in the eyes. “Don't rev it too high. It'll take off and you go right through the front wall of this truck.” I thought about it for a sec, it's not the kind of thing you ever really imagine yourself doing – smashing through the front end of a tractor trailer on national TV. I briefly considered going for it, as it would make for some unreal footage, but then re-considered. I couldn't smash through the front of the truck - I wasn't wearing my helmet. I carefully revved it up just enough to make a lot of noise and blow some exhaust out the back of the trailer for the camera guys. They ate it up. Camera guys are like that. Michel and I did the obligatory 'handshake' picture, this time for the TV cameras and I walked over to Dom - a massive grin plastered across my face. This was it – a snowmobile. In only a few trades I'd managed to parlay one red paperclip into a snowmobile. The back of the tractor trailer didn't exactly double as the front of a majestic ocean liner, but Dom and I were on top of the world. Anything was possible. Nothing could possibly go wrong. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and turned around. Michel looked pointed at the snowmobile, “So mister paperclip, where do you want me to tell the truckers to take your snowmobile?” Uh oh. I hadn't thought of this. I always figured that the snowmobile would stay at the radio station until I decided who I was going to trade it with. I was in a pickle. I hate being in pickles. Actually, I can honestly say that pickles are my least favorite food. Definitely the most over-rated gherkin. I thought hard. Our apartment was tiny and it was on the third floor, so that was out. My buddy Matt was at work and it'd be pretty cheeky to drop it off at his place, which happened to be his parent's place too, without at least a little bit of warning. I could definitely make it up to him with vast amounts of beer at a later date, but I'd just gone and traded away my keg full of beer, so that was out too. Dom shook her head, gave me 'the look', and said, “Nice one. I told you you should find a place for that snowmobile. What were you thinking? That it would just find a place all by itself?” I obviously did think the snowmobile would find a place all by itself. After all, it was a snowmobile, isn't that what they do? I frantically tried to think of where I could store the now-famous snowmobile. Then it hit me: Justin. I looked at Dom, who still was all about 'the look', and attempted to regain some credibility. “What about Justin? He said I could probably keep it in his garage for awhile...” She looked back at me, this time with the 'the eye' then progressed to 'the voice', “What? You can't just send it over there now. You need to call people a long time before you do stuff like that.” I didn't have a long time before I did stuff like that. I had now. Now would have to do. Anyhow, Justin was the kind of guy who'd understand. I'd met him a few years previous at a hostel in Australia. The first time we met he was fresh off the plane from Quebec and hardly spoke a word of English. I remember thinking how difficult it must be to learn a new language by total immersion. I watched as Aussies gave him the gears for not understanding simple English stuff like “How ye goin mate? Yeh, toss the slab of VB in the ute. That sheila you were just talking to's got a few roos loose in the top paddock but I reckon you can get a quick root in before this arvo.” We laughed about it then, and I couldn't help but think how humbling it must've been for him - not knowing what arvo or ute meant. Sheesh. He must've felt like a total moron. Now was my turn to face the music. I pulled out my phone and dialed Justin. He picked up right away. “Hello?” I looked up. Two TV cameras were in my face. The red lights were on. I swallowed, then went for it. “Hey Justin, do you remember how you said I might be able to keep the snowmobile at your place?” “Yeah...” “Well, um, I kinda just found out that I need to find a place to keep it for awhile.” Justin laughed. This was such sweet revenge. He couldn't see the cameras, and I didn't exactly give him a visual description of my situation, but I'm sure he could hear it in my voice. This was probably way more humbling than the time he had to muster up his best English and ask a pair of true blue Aussies what they meant by 'root'. I spoke again, “Is it cool if it comes to your place?” He laughed again. “Sure man. I'll give you the address.” The camera guys ate it up. Camera guys are like that. We said goodbye to the camera guys and reporters and lugged the instant party into the radio station. We made our way to a room filled with people milling about and shook lots of hands. There were no TV cameras here. It's funny how even a room filled with people asking you questions in French is a relaxing stress-free oasis after a day spent in front of multiple TV cameras. I could make the most embarrassing phone call of all time and it wouldn't be replayed on national TV. I considered making a real embarrassing phone call, just for kicks, then gave up on the idea. Being able to make an embarrassing phone call without TV cameras capturing every dramatic moment was always something I'd taken for granted. It's funny how your life changes when you go on national TV. Michel and I talked on-air for awhile about the project. I managed to hold my own in French, and even convinced Dom to get in on the conversation. She was a bit nervous, seeing how every person she'd ever known had heard about the interview and was probably listening. Going on the radio in French was a big end to a big day. When I first came to Quebec a few years before this moment, I hardly spoke a word. Learning French was the hardest, most humbling experience of my entire life. Way harder than that silly little last-minute phone call to Justin. I’d worked outside as a roughneck on oil rigs at forty below, and that was tough, but nothing compares to sitting at the dinner table with your girlfriend’s family, totally oblivious to the real life in front of your eyes. It's amazing how us English first-languagers have got it. We expect pretty much expect everybody to understand us wherever we go, and for the most part, they do. It's amazing when the coin is flipped and you find yourself as an outsider to a culture. Speaking to Michel on the radio in French with all of Dom's family listening was when I felt like I finally bridged the gap. I was still the 'Anglo', something I'm toally cool with, but now I had a least a little bit of Quebecois street cred. I chilled with Michel Barrette on-air. The Michel Barrette. Michel told us how he was going to give one instant party to his buddy as a gift. He'd originally decided to give him the snowmobile, but after he heard about the project, he changed his mind and decided it would be a whole heck of a lot funnier his buddy got a full keg of beer, a Budweiser sign, and then about thirty additional cases of beer. I figured his buddy might be choked at first, especially if he found out I'd snaked the snowmobile from him, but after downing a handful of beers and seeing the vast amount of intoxicating potential before his eyes, would tell Michel that he was a genius. One thing was certain, I definitely thought Michel Barrette was a genius. A genius and a really cool guy. Click here to see who I traded Michel's snowmobile with. PS
Now would be a good time to add "The snowmobile Song" by Stompin' Tom Connors to your ipod arsenal. Yes, now would be a REAL good time to do that.

The initial journey started in Edmonton, AB and ended in Torreon, Mexico with many misadventures in between (thanks to the car). Everyone we have told the story to has loved our animated account of the events. However, when we attempted to transcribe the trip to paper, it lost some of the flare and excitement. We believe putting the story in the "write" hands would be a great contribution to your quest for a home (and the story that goes along with it). I thought it would be fun to make you an offer... I have an old 1978 Dodge Sportsman Van... I bought it in 2001 and lived in it for a bit. I built a futon frame for the back and some shelves. It's a good van, because the people before me had it and used it in the summers to haul a trailer. Then, they were old and had it in storage for 13 years. I got it in 2001 for $1000... and have driven and camped and lived in it ever since... but it is getting beyond me to be able to care for it. All the seals are going because it is so old. All the metal pieces are good because it has had so little use, but the seals leak! Right now it needs a starter solenoid and a new carberator because there is a vacuume leak in the throttle arm. I have all the service and mechanical records since 2001. It's not running right now. What my van needs is someone who is good with a wrench and wants a good van for travelling, or camping, or climbing trips... something like that. I don't have the tools or a garage where I can work on it myself. Not to mention that I'm a girl... and while I've done some things like change the front wheel bearings... It stresses me and I usually sit down for 3 cups of coffee before I get into the grease. Lotsa new parts on it... new hoses new thermostat timing chain & gears waterpump belts front coil springs new cap and rotor valve cover gaskets new set of sparkplugs (still in packages) good tires shocks are 1 year old new exhaust on it not much rust on it.... but it's not running right now. I think it's the starter solenoid or the wiring in the steering column. Could you find someone to love my van? Some one that would love to have her? I could trade you for the snowmobile or something else. I live in Canmore and I do LOTS of backcountry skiing and stuff here! A snowmobile would be wonderful! I work at the Canmore Nordic Center and have lots of people to ask about snowmobiles and things... we use them for work every day... I can send you pictures if you would like to see Daisy (the van)... She's blue and grey on the outside and blue interior. Let me know! It would be fun to meet you too! I don't know what to do about the fact that she's not running right now. Could you move it? fix it? Salut Bonjour

Hey everybody around the world. I'd say it's more than likely that you're from right here in Quebec today cause I was on the front page of 'le journal de montreal' this morning.
Yeah, I was surprised too. Je 'parle' français pas trop mal, especiallement après une couple des bouteilles de Labatt Bleue, mais j'ecris en français comme un pied. And for that reason, the blog's going to be en anglais. It was really cool to meet the reporter from le journal, Patrick Lagacé. I've been a big fan of his ever since I moved to Montreal last year - when he was hitch-hiking across Canada and writing stories for the newspaper. Cool Stuff. Patrick's definitely a guy I look up to. A true reporter. The kind of guy that goes right to the source for the scoop. Yesterday, in true Lagacian fashion, he came to the source of one red paperclip: our apartment. He even brought a REAL journalist's notebook! CIMG4568 You might say with his going-right-to-the-source style, Patrick is somewhat of a Quebecois version of Al Roker. Merci Patrick! I'm getting some interest from around the world on this project now. As anyone who's followed this blog already knows, I can't resist a good pie chart. It's more than a long shot that I'll be able to write entries in another language, even French, cause running a website in one language is tough enough as it is. So, if anybody wants to write the intro page to one red paperclip in another language than English, any language, it will be greatly appreciated. I'll even post your name and a link to your site if you'd like! Here's the intro to one red paperclip: http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com/2005/07/one-red-paperclip.html Thanks, and have a great Friday! Kyle

Norway Pie Chart and one instant party videos

I just figured out a way to upload videos. Also found a green PAC MAN guy on my website traffic report. That green PAC MAN shape means that about 80 kazillion Norwegians are coming to the site. Took this opportunity to make a nice little Norway-trade-offer / eagle shirt / Montreal urban snowscape video. I'll still trade the one instant party with ANYBODY, ANYWHERE - just thought it'd be an opportune time to market the instant party to Norwegians, that's all. I don't know about you, but I've never had an opporutne time to market ANYTHING to Norwegians before. So, yeah, rock on Norway! I wish I could say some rad things in Norwegian or something, but I can't....yet. You wanna know something interesting? Not a single Norwegian has made an offer for the one instant party yet - who's going to be the first? Oh yeah, the High School my parents went to was Burnaby North - home of the Vikings....and before I moved to Montreal, I lived in Vancouver - on a fjord! Better strike while the iron's hot. Kyle

Brasil

I was just looking at the traffic stats for this site today and it's come to my attention that 25% of the visitors to this site are from Brasil. (Yes, Brasil - no not Brazil - but Brasil. Why do we use a 'Z' instead of an 'S'? - seems silly to me - kinda like Canada with a 'K' - although it's sorta rad if you think about it: Kanada.) Anyhow, different-country-spelling tangents aside, there can only be one explanation for all this attention from Brasil: Brasilians love to party. I'd argue that Brasilians are world famous for near-absolute-domination in the realms of soccer and instant parties. So if you're reading this and you're in Brasil, Bem-vindo à um clipe vermelho! (hopefully google translate didn't drop the ball on the translation...) Feel free to make an offer for one instant party! It'd be pretty sweet to have one instant party in Brasil. The blue and yellow slices of these pies down below are super-surprising to me. I thought Canada/US/UK would dominate the pie and take the biggest slices by far - seeing how I don't speak a single word of Norwegian or Portuguese and haven't been to either Brasil OR Norway. Maybe Brasilians and Norwegians just like pie.
DISCLAIMER: This goes out for all citizens of the world:
Remember, I will go ANYWHERE for the right offer.
Sample of people who came to ORP on Nov 23, 2005: mapworldbrasilbigtime countries orp nov 23 orp visitors language nov 23 **I just talked on-air with the Morning Hot Tub crew at Hot 89.9FM in Ottawa, just up the road from me here in Montreal. 10 reasons why you need ‘one instant party’

1. Ease: I will come to you to make the trade. Remember, I will go ANYWHERE for the right offer. 2. Flexibility: My schedule is EXTREMELY flexible. I will work around your schedule. 3. Awesomeness: Beer is awesome. Maybe it’s the target-market-for-beer-demographic part of me talking here, but beer is so sweet. You also get to keep the keg and the Budweiser sign – which are awesome collectors items. 4. Freshness: It’s not actual beer YET, it’s just an IOU. When you get the beer it will be fresh. 5. Anti-Alcohol Values: I’m not promoting beer consumption here - I’m promoting fun. There’s no reason why you need to drink the beer. Remember – you’re not making an offer for beer, you’re making an offer for an IOU for a keg’s worth of beer and a neon sign. If your idea of fun is NOT drinking alcohol, then you can use one instant party to promote anti-alcohol values or your personal distaste for beer. Get a bonfire going and burn the IOU if you like. You can make 'one instant party' a martyr for your cause! 6. Brand Recognition: Do you own a small micro-brewery or some other business that is looking to create brand recognition? Offer me something related to your business for one instant party and you’ll get TWICE the publicity. -We can fill this keg with your favorite beer. (Maybe your own beer - nobody said it has to be Bud) -Whatever you trade me for one instant party will be re-traded again shortly so your brewery/other business will get another mention when the next trade happens. -This site is viewed by thousands of people per day. Your business will be famous. As famous as Oprah. 7. Literary: Maybe I’ll write a book about this adventure. You might be in a book! 8. Christmas: Christmas parties are on the horizon. If you’ve got a green keg already but need a red one to complete the color scheme, then look no further. (I can also paint half of the keg green if you’re looking for a one-keg Christmas color scheme.) 9. Historic: This site is getting some serious publicity. It was talked about in the New York Times and USA Today last week, and there are surely more journalists waiting to write about it - as soon as I make the perfect trade. If you get your hands on one instant party, it will be chronicled here on this website. By default, your party will be LEGENDARY – even if it’s just a few people sitting around playing Scrabble. You can have a Scrabble party that will go down in history. 10. Fun: This trade will be fun. If you think about it, there’s really no reason why you wouldn’t want ‘one instant party’. So, what are you gonna offer for one instant party?! oneredpaperclip@gmail.com Have fun, Kyle PS The deadline for trade offers for 'one instant party' is Dec 1st, but if someone makes me a time-sensitive offer I can’t refuse, I’ll have to, well, not refuse.

one instant party

Maspeth Queens, NYC Nov 16, 2005: VIDEO: one red generator for one instant party Marcin gave me an offer for the red generator I couldn’t refuse: one beer keg one neon Budweisier sign one I.O.U. for a keg’s worth of beer. Add it all up and you’ve got ‘one instant party.’ After a major snafu with the red generator on Tuesday night, I managed to reschedule the trade with Marcin in Maspeth. Around 4pm, Dom and I drove over the Williamsburg Bridge and found our way to Marcin’s place. I plugged the neon Budweiser sign into the generator, pulled the cord and we watched the generator roar to life. Marcin switched on the light, it lit up – powered by the generator. We looked at each other, shook hands and sealed the deal. Marcin spends most weekends out in the country, and will put the generator to excellent use – that you can be sure of. He’s followed one red paperclip right from the start. With a trade like this, a super-cheesy nickname like ‘The King of BartErERS’ writes itself. Marcin set a major precedent for all future trades. He traded an I.O.U. worth exactly one keg of beer. That means, whoever gets ‘one instant party’ will have the keg filled with the beer of their choice, courtesy of Marcin. An I.O.U. for beer is a liquid asset on so many levels. welcome to the I.O.U. zone This was a landmark trade, not just because of the intricacy of illuminating the neon light off of electricity from the generator or the fact that I am now in the I.O.U. zone, but because ‘one instant party’ has the potential for so much fun. Before anybody out there says it, I’ll say it myself: the items that make up ‘one instant party’ are probably not worth as much as one red generator: Marcin got an awesome deal. But remember, this is not eBay. This is one red paperclip. I’m not here to sell stuff; I’m here to barter stuff – and barter is supposed to be fun. I’m not sure about you, but I’d argue that ‘one instant party’ has a lot more potential for fun than one red generator. I’m sure Marcin will have an awesome time with his red generator – that’s assured. Generators are fun too. I’m just saying that even though one red generator may have a higher cash value than one instant party, ‘one instant party’ has more funtential. And fun is priceless. By the way, I spray painted the keg red. It had to be done. one instant party The other night after I realized the red generator was confiscated by the FDNY, I had a revelation. As I frantically searched lower Manhattan for the confiscated generator, I fully expected that I was going to be hit with a $500 NYC bylaw fine for a serious offense like ‘causing a fire hazard’ or ‘awakening hotel guests with something other than loud rock music’ or ‘searching too frantically for a missing electrical generator’. At this point in my mind, the generator was not an asset. It was a liability. I didn’t have $500 to bail out the generator. I’ve had loads encouragement from many residents of blogland who want to see me complete the series of trades up to a house. I want nothing else than for this to happen. In fact, with all the help I’m getting, I feel that we’re in this together and that if I don’t get up to a house, I’ll let you down. Bartering up to a house is going to be fun. It is going to be rad. It will rule. When I get the house, you will all be invited over. But for me to barter from one red paperclip to one house, a paradigm shift needs to occur. Definition of Paradigm Shift from somewhere google took me: “A complete change in thinking or belief systems that allows the creation of a new condition previously thought impossible or unacceptable. (ex.- the change in thinking created by Just-in-Time that views inventory as a liability, not an asset)” Now I’m not saying that the whole barter from one red paperclip to a house concept needs to be Fixxed, it’s just that I’ve come to learn that One Thing Leads to Another and that each trade I make has a massive repercussion on what future trade offers will be, whether I make a subtle random unnecessary reference to a new wave pop song from 1983 or not. What I’m saying is: I need to think outside the paperclip. With the vast amounts of funtential stored within ‘one instant party’, the project can no longer be called just one red paperclip: This is one red paperclip 2.0 ORP 1.0 = limited to bigger or better objects, like ‘The World’s Largest Hockey Stick’ ORP 2.0 = the same as ORP 1.0 but also includes things like ‘Guest host spot on the Tonight Show' (**Don’t get me wrong here, the entire project will revert back to a pure, only object-oriented ORP 1.0 style if you or somebody else can hook up a sponsorship from a massive freight company like UHAUL or CHINA SHIPPING LINES or NASA that will pick up all freight charges plus the occasional city bylaw snafu along the way. (I don’t have room for The World’s Largest Hockey Stick in my apartment, but I will make some if it comes up for trade.) I need to start trading liquid assets. Things that have the potential to be re-traded quickly. Things that will sell themselves. Things that will not get confiscated by the FDNY. Things like beer. Okay, bad example, but I hope you get my point. What I’m trying to say is that I want to spend more time actually trading things and less time improving them and searching for trade offers. It took 53 days to trade the generator. 53 days is WAY too long. 53 days is not fun, 53 days is boring. 53 days is so one red paperclip 1.0 I appreciate the dozens of offers for vehicles that only need a few new parts to get them back on the road – parts like ‘left side rear-view mirror’ or ‘shifter knob’ or ‘entire new drive train and frame-straightening’ – but what you need to understand is, I don’t have any tools. I’ve got a hammer, some scissors, a Swiss Army knife and a few rolls of duct tape. Unless you can provide the garage, the labor and the parts to fix the vehicle, then a handful of rolls of duct tape isn't going to make the vehicle any easier for me to trade for something else. (If you have an original General Lee, in any condition, please disregard this paragraph) I’m really excited about this. This is such a big step in the right direction - the direction of awesome. Click here to see who I traded Marcin's instant party with. PPPS **Lessons learned from ‘one red generator’: -Some things are not meant to fly – like a gasoline-powered electrical generator. -Some things are not meant to be stored in hotel storage rooms – like a gasoline-powered electrical generator. -Some things are not easy to barter in New York City when New York City is not suffering from a crippling blackout – like a gasoline-powered electrical generator. -Funtential is now a real word. -Furiousity is not a real word. Yet.

Offers for one instant party

Send your trade offer here: oneredpaperclip@gmail.com ********** Please post a comment at the bottom of this page to say which one I should take! ********** The deadline for trade offers for 'one instant party' is Dec 1st, but if someone makes me a time-sensitive offer I can’t refuse, I’ll have to, well, not refuse. ********** There are a few offers in different languages here too, to get the most out of 'em, copy/past the text into google translate ********** OFFERS: Hey man How about 2 used fridges and 2 used dishwashers? We just bought a house that had 2 of each that came with it but we already had one of of our own! They are working fine and in great condition, we just don’t need three of each!!! I am a big Bud fan so I would be very interested in your current stuff! Let me know and good luck! I hope you get your house by next summer! Nelson Julien Later! Pensez-y!!! Bien à vous Josée Bournival ***This is pretty awesome. This is an offer for a SNOWMOBILE!! Michel Barrette is a well known celebrity in Quebec. This is offer is going to be VERY HARD to refuse.*** ********** Sympa ton histoire ! Je t'offre un ballon de soccer officiel de la Ligue de soccer élite du Québec. Good Luck ! Good luck! Pierrot ********* I found your site today and I was slightly surprised to find norwegians all over the frontpage. Pleasantly surprised, of course. So i wished I had something to trade you for, and I just couldn't think of anything all day. Until now(which is laaate afternoon over here)! Suddenly, it hit me like a brick in the head except far less painfull!! Ok, follow this: Norway is a quite expensive country. Living expences, and hotels in particular, are in no way an exception to this. So, for anyone wanting to come to Norway on a holiday, living expences would claim big shares of their budget. I therefore hereby offer: 1 weeks stay in my apartement for absolutely free and I will even cook breakfast and function as a taxi to/from airport. I might even be talked into doing a bit of guiding. Preferably, this stay would be sometime after 01.06.2007 since the apartement I have bought will be finished (as in built) on this date, but if nescessary, staying in my rental apartment might also be worked out. (I might add that I am a 24 year old girl, no weird habits or odd behaviour. I also shower regularly and clean my apartement with somewhat regular intervals.) Now, this IS indeed a great offer. Not only would it take care of the sleeping-issue, also you would have a fot in with the locals :D Also, I must stress the fact that this is also a great deal for mr.paperclip personally, as I would like to throw the instant-party on New Years Eve, as me and my friends are currently looking for a new-years party, our regular one has cancelled this year. Also, a free holiday stay in Norway should be easy to trade. Lots of americans and german people come here every year. For the fjords I think. I have taken the liberty to list some of the advantages this offer would have for you personally. This would give you an oportunity to: 1. Visit Norway 2. Learn something "rad" in Norwegian 3. Party with Norwegians (we're great) 4. Bring your girlfriend on a romantic weekend to Norway (if you find new-years parties romantic) 5. I'll throw in my big fan as a personal gift(it's huge, it's as long as I am) (and I've nowhere to store it so I might aswell give it up. I cannot give it the home it deserves). I shall add that I have some experience with visiting canadians (actually, just visiting canadian, not plural) so I will be able to take care of you in the best way. I could say that the stay would be in one red house, but that would be a lie. However, my parents live in one, and I do love red so I own a lot of red stuff. Hopefully, you will be nice enough to save the day and our new years eveparty and all that, and give some lucky people the oportunity to come to Norway which they otherwise would not be able to afford and so on. Best of luck with future trading and obviously hoping to hear from you accepting my offer, Beate Sørum ********** Bonjour Kyle!Je m'appel Pierre-Michel Morais-Godin, je viens de Trois-Rivières... Oui Oui! ********** Hi Kyle! I really hope that I will be the first Quebecer to do a trade with you. Because the winter is on his way, I am offering you 4 winter tires for the Budweiser sign. They are like brand new (Only a winter and a half). If it doesn’t work, let me congratulate you for your project and I really hope that you will achieve your deam. Bonne chance!!! J'attend de tes nouvelles!!!! Patrice Trois-Rivieres, Quebec organ ********** Myself and my recenly single fan would LOVE to throwkeg party with you in DOWNTOWN Ottawa! The rockencapital of Canada! We are both single and beautiful and willing to party! ********* What up Kyle!? I think you're brilliant! I heard about your site this morning on the Ottawa radio station Hot 89.9 and had to smile! So I would like to help you on your way to a house and be the first participant from Ottawa by offering you a fully functioning Admiral KITCHEN STOVE! It's white, has the standard 4 elements and oven. My wife and I just bought a house in Ottawa and ended up with an extra stove. It's about 10 years old, but very well kept - note, this stove was just cleaned and is completely spic and span! But that's not all. Far from it my friend, I will also include a fully working Admiral dishwasher in the deal!! It's black, and ready to wash anything that can be thrown at it. I would be happy to trade for the instant party. I'm sure I can find a way to put it to good use! :) Let me know! Rick Ottawa. BTW, just to add to the fun factor, heres an idea for you. I can get a whole bunch of my fellow students to come out for an end of semester party, and I'm sure it would be a cinch to get the hot89.9 radio crew involved. More exposure for you, and more fun! It will surely cure the red paper clip 1.0 blues! Hmm, let's just keep this between you and me for now, don't let my wife know... yet! :) Getting creative, Rick ********** hey man, sweet site and good idea, what im from ottawa, i hear you on chez 106.1 onmy way to school and i thought id offer you something....how about an ounceof excellent weed (28grams) a very good conditioned fan, some boxing gloves,a fake rolex that looks really really real, a bright yellow shiny shirt thatsays popcorn on the back, one year subscription to mad magazine, a nicleybuilt dog house, paintbal gun, and to stick around for the sweet party idhave if u traded me all that stuff haha. well think about it and send me andemail if yur interested or just to say u got this, have fun and hope yur trades turn out good. taker easy.-Eric ********** I don't have much to offer that would make it worth your while to comeall the way down here. But if you liked you could have my officemate. She's pretty hot and looking for someone right about now...But she might be fussy about who you could trade her on to.Good luck!Rachel from NZ. ********** Hi!Not really interested in the party, but if you trade the party for the snowblower, milkcan, and 8 52-in-1 NES cartridges, I'll trade you those items for a Sony camcorder. The camcorder could come in handy in filming your future trades and posting them on the net - though if you used it for that, you couldn't trade it! Tell you what, I'll throw in 3 gameboys (a gameboy, a gameboy advance, and a gameboy colour) with a bunch of games. That way you can trade the gameboys, and keep the video camera to film future trades! I think I might also have a video capture card, (I may have thrown it out) for transferring the videos to your computer. The Sony camcorder comes with tapes, two batteries, and all the cables you'd need. It comes in a nice sony camera bag.The snowblower has to work fairly well.Charles, in Toronto ********** I could offer one ceiling fan w/light (white w/gold trim) works fine. I'm in Illinois and if we trade I think we could do it on TV. I heard about you website on the morning news I watch and the newscaster said that if we could get you to trade w/someone local to call and maybe we could do in on air. The being on TV is not set in stone if you accept my offer for the ceiling fan I will make a few calls. Let me know what you think. Happy Trading!!! ********** I live in the Austin area and have lots to trade. I will just make a list and then we can talk… 2 gumball machines on one stand. One almost full of gum, the other less than half full of little rubber bouncy balls, takes 1 quarter 50 vhs movies, lots of good titles, 8+ Sin City comic books. I have a warehouse full of other stuff if this is not enough Rhy Rheinlander ********** 16 Pack of Charmin Toilet Paper. White. --Toilet paper is going to be very handy after the Instant Party, especially if it's filled with Bud. ********** Offer: One Non-denominational Instant Holiday Party: The Movie: I've been following your moves since the beginning. After seeing your latest trade, I felt I had to make an offer. I thought about for a few days but came up with nothing. I decided to return to the site where I first noticed the Red Paperclip, Craigslist.org, to see what some popular barter items were for some ideas. There was one glarringly popular item that everybody seemed to be interested in on Craigslist. Fortunately for you though, I do not like to massage other men, nor do I want a massage, so Craiglsist served useless. As I was watching my 53" HDTV my friend called me to remind me of his Holiday Party in Philadelphia on December 17th. That's when I got an idea for a trade - "One Non-Denominational Instant Holiday Party: The Movie". I can tape the party thrown on December 17 from One-Instant Party and then trade my tv so you can re-live the party forever. Oh yeah, did I mention that I also have a 32" Sony TV that I bought off my friend for $150 bucks and that's the one I was talking about. Get your hands off my 53"er. Here's a picture of the tv. It's actually a Sharp and I'm not sure how big, 27-32" I'd guess. Eric 2005-11-23 tv ********** 1981 500ccdx Honda Motorcycle. No pictures , but paint is good. Battery needs charging every once in awhile and fork seals need replacing, but it still flies down the highway with plenty of funamation returns. Brian in the frozen northwest in boise idaho ********** Hey, my name is Ashley. I'm a law student at Florida State University. We are a drinking school with a football problem. So here is my proposal: My fellow law students and I are studying feverishly for out final exams, and we are very interested in the instant party. Honestly, we like to drink... and would be more than happy to have you join us as we celebrate the commencement of our first semester of law school. I am offering you one (possibly two) tickets to the Fiesta Bowl where Notre Dame will likely play. This offer is slightly premature, as the bowl games have not exactly been decided. But if you are interested in trading... and joining us for a good time please respond. Thank you! P.S. We are a hot mess... trust me, it would be fun! ********** I'd gladly trade you a gas-powered snowblower, a milk can (the kind they used to fill up from the farm), and a box of 8 52-in-1 NES cartridges with convertors (because they're the Japanese Famicom type) for your Instant Party. How about it? Cheers,MC ********** Ok, I'm going to make you an offer right now for the keg/neon sign: ONE BLANK DVD-R disc (no case or sleeve) Yup, that's it. Think about it, you can take a camcorder, make a film, and burn it onto this DVD and send it off to a movie house. Then you might be a famous director! P. Anderson. ********* I have a 5 gig iPOD. In California San jose. ********** I’ve been following your trading and it’s pretty interesting. I think I might have a good trade for your “one instant party”. My business partner and I run a web development company named Red Beard Development. We will trade you one domain name registration, a one page red beard designed website, and one year of hosting in exchange for your instant party. The hosting deal alone is worth $250 so that’s a step up right? My partner and I are ready to have a fun holiday party with our wives, you, and some friends. Let me know what you think about the “one red website”. Regards,Chris Shaw Director Red Beard Development, Inc. www.RedBeardWeb.com ********** I would like to offer one Mystery Box in trade for the Instant Party. ********** I would like to offer 1 Sword, 1 Dale EarnhardtCollectible of your choice minus my blanket, onecollectible Bowie Knife of General Robert E. Lee, and1 Sound Blaster Live Card, 1 56k external US Roboticsexternal USB Modem, and 1 boxed The South Will Riseagain Knife with wolf and rebel flag, Lighter withrebel Flag, never used. Let me know ********** www.myspace.com/crazystring First off….this is the coolest idea ever…my god…the only thing I could possibly give to trade would be friends and locations….I know that’s not going to get you a house…but you would meet loads of friends with free places to stay and new things to see…I, however offer a brand new…well basically, as I am a girl and don’t use this much…but a new X-box…with 5 great games included….Thats like $100 to your house goal…but, if not selected I am giving you kodos…for this and wish you the best… traveling from me includes multiple destinations in Texas, as I am living in Austin, NC and LA….now I am a super friendly person and know a lot of people…bands, groups, and mcs are all included in all of your travels and parties…my friends and I love music…I also have a huge friend group in Europe (even though you didn’t list that..its amazing)…so keep me in mind..and best wishes Xxx Jena *********** Hi there... I see that you're trying to barter a party here in Austin- I was wondering if you'd like to make that pot a little sweeter... add a little more funtential? I manage a musician here in Austin- his name is Kenneth Brian (http://www.kennethbrian.com/) and he plays traditional roots/Americana music. I just spoke to him on the phone after reading your blog (actually, your ad on craigslist that brought me to your blog) and he said he'd play a party solo (acoustic) that had beer and a neon sign. And a bartender. If you're trying to barter here in Austin (its the Live Music Capitol of the World ya know) you should have some music! Why do we want to do this? Cause we are all for your cause. And we get a little more exposure (I won't lie). SO~ IF someone bites at your deal here in Texas (prefferably Austin), let them know we can have a local musician play thier party- that is if you're interested... Let me know, Jeannie ********** I have a 24 inch color tv i am willing to trade for the budwiser sign and remote too ********** Hi Kyle!!!Nice to hear from you!!!!!!! I missed you! You're Fired

Pretty interesting evening: -We just went out for dinner. -Made final arrangements with a fellow in Queens to trade the red generator for an "instant party." -Came back to the hotel to pick up the generator from the storage locker in the basement. -Went to the front desk to call up the generator. -Kirk, the guy at the front desk replied: "Oh, the generator. Yeah...right, well, the generator, let's see, um, a few nights ago the front desk clerk smelled gas fumes and dialed 911. The Fire or Police Department came in and took the generator away." Me: "When did this happen?" "A few nights ago." "Why didn't you tell me about this a few nights ago?" "I wasn't working." "Then why didn't somebody else tell me about this a few nights ago?" "I don't know." "Where is the generator now?" "I don't know." Dom looked at me, "What are you going to do now?" Me: "I don't know." Since the potential trader needed to make the trade happen before 9pm, I had to call him up and cancel the trade. But that didn't help find the generator. Two hours of calls to every emergency responder outlet on the Southern tip of Manhattan and a ride in a FDNY Suburban with a pair of Tootsie Pop sucking veteran NYC firefighters later, we finally tracked the generator down to Ladder 20 on Lafayette Street. The firefighters were awesome. They found the generator. They gave Dom and I Tootsie Pops. They even had a dalmation. So, the generator is safely back in my hands. A few nights ago at the hotel, somebody must've stored it on its side or something, because it runs great and doesn't leak gas. Tomorrow, Wednesday Nov. 16, If you are located roughly on the route between NYC and Montreal, (I-87) give me a call on my cellphone 514-833-3980, I can come to you to make the trade! The red generator is still up for grabs! A red generator confiscated by the FDNY! talk to you soon, Kyle. Dalmation Pop

"All the News That's Fit to Print"

Yup. Apparently, I'm fit to print. The New York Times put together a nice little paragraph about one red paperclip in the 'What's Online' portion of the Business Section. You can read all about it right here: (look below the KFC bit ....) http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/12/business/media/12online.html So that was cool, it even kinda fits into my personal motto: "Always look past the fried chicken." In additional self-plugging news, a few days ago I went to the 'Hot Sites' section of the USA Today website looking for a way to submit a link about one red paperclip ...when I stumbled across a fun little treat: www.usatoday.com/tech/hotsites/11-10-hotsites.htm I guess I'll need to update the site with a warning at the top: "Caution, contents are hot." That should be fun. If you see an artice about one red paperclip, don't hesitate to share! have fun, Kyle PS - NYCers I'm at the Holiday Inn in New York with the generator. I want to trade it! Send me an offer! I've got my car here! I can deliver it to your place! I'll even bring you some fried chicken! oneredpaperclip@gmail.com

I'll be on the air today - Weekend America

Hey there, I recorded a half hour long show about one red paperclip with Barbara and Bill of Weekend America. The show will air today all over the U.S. - on the weekend, in America, as promised. Here is a list of the radio stations that will air the program: http://weekendamerica.publicradio.org/about/stations.php. I really enjoyed taping the show, Barbara and Bill were super fun to chat with. It should be fun little mid-day Saturday listen. I hope you enjoy it. Anyhow, I'll see you soon, and don't forget to keep making trade offers! I'm going to give it another day or two and then go for one. Nothing's settled yet! kyle PS I'm in NYC right now and won't be able to record the show. If anybody can send me some sort of copy of the show that'd be awesome! Thanks in advance!

Thanks Norway, Hello NYC!

Well, the attempt to track down the elusive GIANT PAPERCLIP in Norway was a roaring success. I've received dozens of emails from some extremely helpful Norwegians that've led to a panapoly of pictures of the paperclip. FYI: Paperclips are called 'binders' in Norway. If you haven't already, please check out the pictures of the paperclip on my flickr page and feel free to add oodles of comments. Apparently the #1 radio station in Norway picked up the story and told pretty much the entire country about one red paperclip. Just got this email, like 2 minutes ago: On 11/11/05, Sverre Bjørstad Graff wrote: Hi there!Yesterday I wrote an article on Startsiden.no about your project.Startsiden is the second largest website in Norway, with more than 600000 unique visitors every day.The article can be found here:http://www.nesteklikk.no/20051110/71970.html but naturally, it's written in Norwegian, so I don't expect you to understand much of it. I wrote that your idea was both simple and brilliant, and that your project canbe followed on your website. Also, I wrote that if any of the readershas a house in Oslo, Norway - I do have a paper clip I'm eager to exhange.I wish you the best of luck with your project. Please let ut now when you get the house.:o)Best wishes,Sverre Bjørstad Graff Oslo - Norway Well, that explains a lot. A large number of Norwegians have also told me about a large error I've made that needs to be corrected: Wife carrying competitions are in Finland, not Norway. ************ Today, I'm heading down to New York City - and I'll be there until next Wednesday. (Nov 16) Apparently the New York Post will print a story today about one red paperclip, which has the potential to make things go absolutely haywire around here. I can't think of a better place on earth than NYC to barter the generator. This should be real fun. If you live in NYC or have any friends or family, (or perhaps foes) that live in New York, please tell them that this FRI-SAT-SUN-MON-TUES-WED I will be in town and can meet up for a trade. I'll have a car, so it can be pretty much anytime/anywhere within a few hours drive of Manhattan. Please submit all trade offers to oneredpaperclip@gmail.com This should be rad. Talk to you soon, Kyle PS If anybody is game to meet up for a beer or two or three this weekend in NYC, send me some ideas for a place to meet up and I'll score everyone who shows up one FREE official red paperclip (with certificate) so you can barter your way up to a free house too!

Hello Norway!

Wow, I've received an unprecedented boatload of emails from Norwegians today. Somebody in Norway must've heard about the site and told all their friends. Or, It could be because Norway is the 'spiritual home' of the paperclip. Yup, there's a lot of controversy to exactly who invented the paperclip, but Norwegians win hands down for pride. From about.com: "During World War II, Norwegians were prohibited from wearing any buttons with the likeness or initials of their king on them. In protest they started wearing paperclips, because paperclips were a Norwegian invention whose original function was to bind together. This was a protest against the Nazi occupation and wearing a paperclip could have gotten you arrested." Heavy stuff. I hope that in today's Norway, citizens are free to wear paperclips on their garments in an oppression-free environment. I've even heard that there's a giant statue of a paperclip somewhere in Norway, but numerous attempts to find a picture have come up empty. Does anybody have a picture of the paperclip statue that's somewhere in Norway? If you do, please forward it to me at oneredpaperclip@gmail.com so we can share it with everybody. This is a mystery we definitely need to get to the bottom of. If this statue really exists, which I hope it does, I guess I need to go and see it. Does anybody in Norway reading this live near the elusive Norwegian paperclip statue? Maybe you and I can go hang out at the statue together some day, then go do some fun Norwegian stuff - like go skiing. I like to ski. I know who Kjetil Andre Aamodt is. Or we could go count reindeer or enter a wife-carrying contest...anything really. But at the very least, we should go see the mysterious giant paperclip statue, then go skiing, and then maybe I can couch surf at your place. Sound fun? Seriously. Anyhow, a special thanks to everybody in Norway for all the support, and I hope to see you soon! Kyle

Benchmark

I just read through some of the comments about one red paperclip over at digg. They're super fun to read. People've got some great tales about bigger or better trading games they played at scout camp, conferences, or college. PGvildys has the best one yet: "During freshmen week at my univ someone started with a pencil and got up to a solar car. At another university they started with a pen and got up to an industrial crane. It's not that difficult to do given time." So that's the benchmark: A solar car or an industrial crane. My nod goes to the industrial crane. Never been much of a aerodynamics junkie. And besides, what can't you do with an industrial crane? I'm only up to one red generator right now, but one day, fingers crossed, that l'il red generator sitting beside me in my apartment will be replaced by an industrial crane, given time. Perhaps a red industrial crane. Anyone got an spare industrial crane lying around? Kyle PS I guess I'll need a bigger apartment. Anyone got one of those lying around too?

Hi

Hey guys, I'm sorta overwhelmed with the traffic at the site today. Links make things exciting, that's for sure. About 100 people visited the site yesterday, and about 20 000 showed up today. Good times. I'd just like to take a minute to give you a little rundown on what's happening around here. I started this site back in July as a 'test' on my old website, Going Postal 3000 and sorta just did a few trades in my spare time as they fit in. I only set up this actual site, oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com, on Nov 7th and it's been a hack-fest guerilla-learnt-html still-pretty rough around the edges site. If anyone wants to help make the site look better, I'd appreciate the help and will give you lots of credit - I've even got some press coverage coming up and the blogosphere is having fun with this one too, so you'll get noticed. As for the trades, well things are getting more challenging as the objects get bigger, but that's cool, it's all part of the game. Thanks for all the trade offers. They're awesome. This is getting funner and funner. We gotta talk to Webster and make funner a real word. That'd be fun. Anyhow, I try to make all the trades happen as best as possible, so keep 'em coming and we'll see what we can do. Talk to you soon, Kyle

This is my story:

On July 12th, 2005 I posted a picture of
one red paperclip
on this website. I traded my one red paperclip with Rawnie and Corinna for
fishpen.JPG
which was exchanged with Annie for
knobt.JPG
that Shawn saw and bartered his
coleman.JPG
that was then swapped with Sgt. David J. for
generator.JPG
that Marcin eyed and switched it for
one instant party
that I traded Michel for his
skidoo2
that Jeff upped to
yahk2
and then swapped with Bruno for
Cintas Cube Truck1995
that Brendan upped the ante with
one recording contract
that Jody traded for
phoenix
and was swapped with Leslie for
one afternoon with Alice Cooper
that Mark switched for
100_0119.JPG
that Corbin turned into
one movie role
and was finally traded for
one house
by the town of Kipling Saskatchewan Canada.

Looking for jewelry worthy of trading a house for? Check out Abazias. You can custom design your own jewelry with diamonds and other precious stones. Ok so it's not as impressive as trading a paperclip for a house, but you gotta start somewhere.
