Cube Van East
Leaving Vancouver Today. Going East through Canada. Gonna meet with brendrum in Toronto next week to trade the cube van for the recording contract.
Just had a chat with Sara on City TV's Breakfast Television in Vancouver. Just as the interview was about to start, I got a phone call from Gary and Philly at MORE FM in Rotorua New Zealand. Tip: turn cell phones off for TV interviews, unless you like awkward fun starts....which are fun.
If you want to interview me, call my cell phone at 514-833-3980. Maybe we can interupt TV shows and stuff.
So, yeah. Time to drive. Lots. 4500 kms/3000miles. If you drive on the Trans Canada Highway this week you'll probably see a lot of this:
and this:
and maybe some of this:
If you need a ride going East, call me on my cell at 514-833-3980. My route's probably gonna be Vancouver-Whistler-Kamloops-Banff-Calgary-Regina-Winnipeg-Thunder Bay-Wawa-Toronto. There's a couch in the back, and today I found a free moutain bike, so if you want to pull over and go mountain biking I can probably make it happen.
I'll try to post again from the road. Till then,
Kyle
Ricky Not Kyle
Hung out with Ricky today in Belcarra. That's Ricky not Kyle. You might have heard me mention Ricky before. As in every time I say my name is "Kyle, not Ricky."
Ricky is my cousin Carmen's husband. Ricky gave me his Cintas shirt (with his name on it) as a bit of a joke last year on July 12. That same day I put the red paperclip up for trade. Well, Ricky's shirt inadvertedly became my trading uniform and when Bruno from Cintas saw me on the cover of Le Journal de Montreal last November, he knew he had to get involved in the project by trading the trip to Yahk for the cube van.
So here we are, Kyle not Ricky, and Ricky not Kyle:
We shot a fun video too:
It'd be pretty cool if Ricky and I formed some sort of advanced specialized trading duo. The kind of duo that could take out other duos in trading duels. This is important, because I often find myself in trading duels with other duos. But I live in Montreal and Ricky lives in Vancouver. I guess we'll just hafta keep our Cintas-shirted duoism as one of those special event sort of things. Till next time, Kyle PS vital links: Ricky Bobby & Nacho Libre PPS one red paperclip was featured on Rocketboom today. Choiceness.

WOW relay
I'm just gearing up to drive from Vancouver to Toronto to trade the cube van for the recording contract. Another biggie. Lots of days on the road. Prit' near darn across the entire country. But I'll be in a cube van. It's not like I'm going to drive across North America on a snowmobile or anything. That'd be crazy.
But that's exactly what a group of women are doing. They are riding across Canada for the Way Out Women (WOW) Polaris relay.
I met up with Cora Tschetters of SnoridersWest a few weeks ago when I was in Yahk. She departs from Grande Prairie Alberta today to begin her leg of the relay across British Columbia. Cora will ride for nine days and cover 1200 kilometers / 750 miles. On a snowmobile.
Not bad Cora, not bad.
The Way Out Women are doing the ride to raise awareness for breast cancer, a worthy cause that hits pretty close to home for me. I hope you get a chance to swing over to the website for the relay and support the Way Out Women. I'm sure they've had quite the ride.
You can follow Cora's progress and read more about the relay on the Polaris Snomobileswebsite. Click here for a scedule of the relay.
Have a good ride,
Kyle
nine mile
I got an email from a guy named D'ari waaaay back in December. He saw me on CNN and fired off an email to say I could crash at his place in Toronto anytime, which is a pretty much the best way to ever meet somebody and score a free place to stay. D'ari's in a band called Nine Mile and I met up with them tonight here in Vancouver. I have to admit I've neve been much of a surf rock/reggae fan (Jack Johnson et al.) always been sort of a punk/old school rap kinda guy. But Nine Mile are really really good. And I'm not just saying that because they scored me a free t-shirt. They're definitely the kind of crew that could nudge me towards the acoustic mellow listening section. I got the same vibe from Dari as I did when I met up with Nirvan of the 1 second film in L.A. last month. D'ari's got an almost surreal persona of being totally driven towards his creative idea. It's like he's already totally famous for his art and that the world is just about to wake up and notice. I have the feeling that, like Nirvan, he's in the middle of something poised to explode. Keep an eye on Nine Mile, and get out to see one of their shows!
Nine Mile has upcoming shows with Matt York in Western Canada, and they play TONIGHT (Friday Feb 24th)in Vancouver at Altitudes on Grouse Mountain. Go check them out, and tell D'ari that Kyle the one red paperclip guy sent you!
You can see their full tour schedule at their website:
www.nine-mile.com
..or their MySpace:

Hmmmm....maybe Nine Mile can play the housewarming this summer...(fingers crossed - until I get the house that is.)

one recording contract
Click on the link below to get the book, and the FULL story about the entire adventure!
I traded one cube van for one recording contract with Brendan.
Included in one recording contract:
1. 30 hours recording time
2. 50 hours mixing/post
3. Transportation to/from Toronto from anywhere in the world
4. Accomodations in Toronto.
5. You album will be pitched to executives at Sony-BMG and XM radio
Here's some pics from our trade:
In order to make the trade official, I had to sign the contract with the left-rear tire of the cube van, of course. Brendan held the contract while the van rolled forward. I'm so glad I didn't run over your fingers Brendan. That would've been so not cool. But then again, the footage would've been amazing.
Yep, it's even on paper. Here's what it looks like:

THE OFFERS
25 snowboard face lifts
Kyle, I just heard about your web-site and think it is an incredible idea and no matter what you think of the trade offer, I wish you the best of luck! Here it is, my daughter is 8 years old and loves to sing. She has an amazing voice. She has been singing locally and in the kids choir, the only problem has been finding a recording studio that is professional and affordable. I would love to offer in trade, 25 custom Facelifts! I will personally design and manufacture 25 custom Facelifts for you to use, or trade, on your way to your new house. If your curious what a Facelift is and why you might need 25 of them, let me explain. A Facelift is an incredible way to customize your snowboard. www.faceliftconcepts.com Being from Canada, I would assume you know a little something about the snow. Facelifts are high quality, do-it-yourself custom top-sheets, that can be applied to any snowboard. They are incredibly durable and will last for years. You can use the Facelift to make an old board look new again or to customize and protect a new board. We work with amazing designers that would be able to help you in creating your custom graphics. In your case Kyle, I was thinking a red paperclip. If not you, then this can also easily be traded to companies looking for a creative way to advertise their business or a team/club that would love a unique and uniform look when they are on the slopes. This chance to see my daughter record her music would be unbelievable. This opportunity for my daughter, Taylor, who loves nothing more then to sing, is truly a once in a lifetime chance. I can send you some of her incredible vocals if you are interested. I appreciate your time and hope that we can make this trade. Brandon
Hey Brandon, when I first got your offer I thought it was for, like, real face, facelifts. But now that I've checked out your site I can see it's much more of an alpine snowboard thing. Yes, being from Canada, I can assure you that it is very important to keep your snowboard in prime condition at all times. You don't want to ride around on an old plank full of sagging features and wrinkles. I think somebody out there will be very intersted in a package of 25 facelifts. Snowobard facelifts, that is.
