I just tweaked the site into (hopefully) better shape. Had lots of comments that the site was "smearing" or generally not working. Usually these comments came from people using weird things like a Mac or Firefox or something weird like that. Real weirdos. Everything should still be easy to find - but if you can't find it, use the search box in the top left hand corner of the site. (Yeah, that blue thing up top that looks like it's part of the address bar thingy.) So, I think it looks pretty decent, except whenever I use an accent or Japanese characters it turns into things like this: ês or this: ドナルド - yeah, some pretty far out stuff. For some creepy irony-laden reason, now the site only comes out clean on a mac using Firefox. Even beyond weird, hardcore alternative browsers like Safari make it look like junk. I really have no idea what I'm doing as far as website design goes. I guess I just won't use accents anymore around here or something...if you have any suggestions on how I can improve the site, please feel free to drop me a line.
In other new website news, despite not using a single ounce of aliteration to entice viewers, it looks like www.peoplefallingdown.com is a rip-roaring success. More than 15 000 visitors in its first few days of existence. Nice. I guess it's true then: There ain't nothing funnier than people falling down.
Have fun - Kyle

ReplyDeletemessy font, try something cleaner...not so weird
ReplyDeleteThis is a much cleaner, not-so-overwhelming look than before. Also, from a "weird" Firefox user, the reason Firefox works over IE is that IE doesn't read code properly, but needs all kinds of weird "hacks" to make things look right, whereas Firefox reads code the way it's supposed to be read. I just designed my own template, too, and I was totally frustrated trying to get it to look the way I wanted in IE.
ReplyDeleteCheck out this post for a humourous, but truthful, argument for Firefox.
Also, check out this site for the html codes for making weird characters.
Have a great night!
Dude... Just tailor it to IE. Everything else is insignificant. If you were to look at your server logs, you would see that anything other than IE, is 1-2%. The "others" can deal with it, just like the Mac users have been doing for decades... Is that right, decades now??? Weirdos anyway, as you said.

I always enjoy reading your site -- I don't mind as long as you keep writing funny stories about your life...
ReplyDeleteps- It's not about the font!
Please don't "Just tailor it to IE." What if a store decided to kick out every twentieth potential customer? The problem is likely not a coding issue, but an encoding one.
ReplyDeleteTry using "meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /" (in angle brackets) just after the HEAD tag.
If that doesn't work, try "iso-8859-1" instead of "utf-8". Hope this helps.

The meta tag between the head and title tags is broken. Get rid of the extra quotation marks and it will be happier.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should trade your web design services to the town of Kipling for free heat & hydro, or at least get them a copy of Frontpage 2003... :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the home.... I've been following this since the doorknob.
cheers,
